Easy Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes
Easy Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes are so delicious! Creamy, buttery goodness ready in just about 30 minutes – this will be your favorite go-to mashed potato recipe!
What are the Best Potatoes for Mashing?
My favorite potato to use for mashed potatoes are Yukon Golds – they are perfectly creamy and pretty, too 😉
Of course there’s always the old tried and true: russets. In my opinion, for mashed potatoes, I would stick to either of these two varieties. I don’t usually use red potatoes but some people really love them!
Steamed Mashed Potatoes
No need to wait for a big pot of water and potatoes to boil here.
Since we are using the Instant Pot, we are going to cook the potatoes by steaming them using salt water – genius!
Peeled or Unpeeled?
You decide, friends! Sometimes I peel them and sometimes I don’t – it really depends on my mood.
If you keep the peel, make sure you wash the potatoes well and you’ll still want to quarter them before putting them into the Instant Pot.
How to Make Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes
First, peel (you can leave the peel on if you prefer!) the potatoes and quarter them. Then just add some water and salt and place your Instant Pot trivet in the bottom of the Instant Pot.
Next lay layer the potatoes onto the trivet. Set the Instant Pot to high pressure and they are ready in just 10 minutes (plus sealing time and quick release).
