Comfort Meal Recipes

Back in the day we lived on meals like Hamburger Helper, Cheesy Mac, Tuna Helper and the like.

Some days we’d improvise and just add ground beef or tuna to that infamous blue Kraft Macaroni and Cheese box. We loved it!

Classic Tuna Casserole – Get Back to Basics!

My simple Classic Tuna Casserole is a perfect “back to basics recipe” – it’ll warm you from the inside out. It’s one of our family favorite nostalgic recipes and so easy.

Pantry Staple Recipe

It’s also so easy and you probably have ALL of the ingredients in your pantry, fridge and freezer right now!

What you’ll need:

Tuna, egg noodles, cream soup, cheese, frozen peas, milk, crunchy cracker topping!

I added some fresh parsley because you know, I’m a grown up now and apparently that’s what grown ups do. It’s not necessary for this recipe.

You’ll also need a large mixing bowl and baking dish.

Substitutions:

Chicken instead of tuna: Not a fan of tuna, feel free to use chicken breast for chicken noodle casserole.

Cream soup: any condensed cream soup would be great.

Can I leave out the peas? Yes! They are not necessary for this recipe – you could also add bell peppers for some veggies or broccoli.

What can I serve with Tuna Casserole?

Perfect served with a side of crusty bread, veggies like broccoli or green beans, or a side green salad.

How long will tuna casserole keep?

Store any leftover in a sealed container in your fridge for 2-3 days.

Can Tuna Noodle Casserole be frozen?

Yes; however do not bake it before you freeze it. Follow instructions to prepare without baking. Then store it in a container like an aluminum pan, wrapping tightly with plastic wrap.

When you’re ready to enjoy it, remove from the freezer and thaw in the fridge for 24 hours. Bake as directed.
