Easy Cheesy Baked Turkey Meatballs

My Baked Turkey Meatballs are the stars of the show when it comes to your meatball needs! I mean, don’t you have meatball needs? These babies are low carb, made with simple ingredients, and perfect for an easy dinner.

Because the ingredients are so super simple (you should be able to find all of these ingredients in any grocery store) these truly simple turkey meatballs, perfect for making a delicious dinner or appetizer for Game Day.  

Note: the recipe below is a double-batch because these go SO quickly, and I like to have some in the freezer for a quick dinner when needed. So go ahead and make a big batch! To make things even more homemade, use fresh herbs in the meatball mixture.

Meatball Ingredients in Cheesy Baked Turkey Meatballs

  • 2 lbs ground turkey – you can use lean ground turkey or the ground meat of your choice
  • 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, chopped or minced
  • 2 shallots, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh ground pepper
  • 1 tsp sea salt or Kosher salt
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 Tbsp fresh basil, chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs of choice, these can be made with gluten free breadcrumbs or regular, or leave out for low carb – you can substitute additional cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • (Additional substitutions/seasonings you can add: mozzarella cheese, tsp or 2 of Worcestershire sauce, dried Italian seasoning if you don’t have fresh, red pepper flakes, a dash of lemon juice, onion powder

How to Make The Best Baked Turkey Meatballs Recipe

Pre heat oven to 375 degrees f; line a large baking sheet or cookie sheet with parchment paper or foil.

In a skillet or frying pan, heat olive oil over medium high heat. Once heated, add chopped shallots, reducing the heat to med/low to avoid burning. Cook until slightly soft, about 5 minutes, in the last minute or so, add the garlic and toss. Remove from heat, and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, add the rest of the ingredients while the shallots and garlic cool off a bit.

Add the shallots and garlic to the bowl and gently mix all of the meat mixture ingredients together. I like to do this with a spatula at first to avoid overmixing the meat which causes tough, dry meatballs. 

Once you have mixed in the ingredients using the spatula, form the meatballs with your hand. To make small/med sized meatballs, use a large tablespoon or cookie scoop and roll the meat quickly into a ball.

Place them evenly on the sheet pan or baking tray – they don’t have to be far apart from each other, just not touching, a single layer. You should be able to get all of them on there.

Bake meatballs in the preheated oven for 23-25 minutes. Baking time may vary but just make sure that the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees using an instant-read thermometer.

Remove from oven and add to your favorite dish or toss with your favorite sauce!

Easy Recipes Ideas for Easy Baked Healthy Turkey Meatballs

I guess what I’m trying to say is that these homemade turkey meatballs are SO versatile! Need some ideas? No problem friend, I’ve got you:

  • Italian Turkey Meatballs: Add them to your favorite marinara sauce, or white Italian sauce, or pesto sauce and serve with pasta, or zucchini noodles
  • Turkey Meatball Appetizers: Toss them in BBQ sauce or Buffalo wing sauce with blue cheese
  • Teriyaki Turkey Meatballs: Add Teriyaki sauce, peppers and pineapple chunks and serve over rice, or cauliflower rice
