We love waffles and pancakes for breakfast around here. When I want a hearty waffle, which is quite often the case, this is my go-to recipe. If you are looking for a light and fluffy waffle recipe, this is not your recipe today!
Ingredients in Oatmeal Waffles
We are using pantry ingredients today, and if you’ve got a brown banana, even better. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Whole wheat or all purpose flour
- Quick oats
- Flaxseed meal, optional
- Baking powder
- Cinnamon
- Brown sugar
- Salt
- Eggs
- Banana
- Milk
- Vanilla
How to Make Oatmeal Waffles
In a large bowl, add all of the dry ingredients and whisky briefly mix everything together.
In another bowl, add the rest of the ingredients and mix well to combine:
Next, add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients:
Heat up your waffle iron and when ready spray with non stick spray if required. Scoop about 1/3 cup of the batter and pour into your waffle maker and cook until done.
Toppings for Waffles
When your waffles are finished top with your favorite toppings. We love butter and syrup around here, but we also like to mix things up. Here are some ideas:
- Fresh fruit and yogurt
- Almond butter and blueberries
- Peanut butter and bananas
- Berries and whipped cream
- Chocolate chips

Ingredients
- 1½ cups Wheat or All Purpose Flour
- 1 cup Quick Oats
- 2 Tbs Ground Flaxseed, optional
- 1 Tbs Baking Powder
- 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- ¼ tsp Salt
- 1 Egg
- 1 Med Banana, mashed
- 1 ½ cups Milk
- 2 T brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, stir together dry ingredients and set aside
- In a separate bowl, mix together the wet ingredients.
- Mix dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and stir until the batter just comes together.
- Lightly grease your waffle iron with a non-stick cooking spray and ladle about 1/3 cup batter onto the iron.
- Remove waffles to a warm platter or plate and serve!
- Top waffles with your favorite toppings: butter, maple syrup, fruit, almond butter, peanut butter, more bananas, blueberries, yogurt…so many options!
