Easy Instant Pot Bone Broth

All you need are just some scrap ingredients and in just a few simple steps you can make your own delicious, nutritious Easy Instant Pot Bone Broth.

Is Bone Broth Healthy For You?

There’s a lot of information out there on the interwebs about the health benefits of Bone Broth. Many claim that it can reduce inflammation and gut health, helps insomnia, boosts immunity, and because it is a source of gelatin it may help to keep our bones and teeth strong.

Many of these claims have been tested and unfortunately there just isn’t enough information from the studies to support them 100%. The thing is: bone broth and broth in general just plain tastes good, amiright?

So regardless of whether or not you choose to consume it for the health benefits or just because it’s delicious, warm, and comforting, go ahead and enjoy!

What Can I Make With Leftover Rotisserie Chicken

…or those limp celery sticks or kinda-old carrots or those fresh herbs that you bought for one recipe that are starting to brown and now you have no idea what you’re going to do with them.

Throw everything into a freezer bag and toss it in your freezer to deal with at a later time…and at such time you will make your own Bone Broth! And it doesn’t have to be a rotisserie chicken or turkey; beef bones are great too.

This recipe would be perfect for your leftover Thanksgiving turkey, too! Vegetarian? No problem, make vegetable broth! But today, this particular recipe is about Bone Broth. (Maybe someday I’ll get a chance to share a vegetable broth recipe with you!)

Can I Freeze Bone Broth?

Yes! In fact, I froze this recipe as soon as it cooled off. Make sure you leave a little room in the container you’re using for expansion. Store it in the fridge for up to 6 months.

When you’re ready to use it, take it out of the freezer a day ahead of time and defrost in your fridge. You may notice a layer of fat that settles onto the top once thawed.  Just remove when ready to use.

What Can I Make With Bone Broth?

Bone broth can be used in SO many recipes! Think about how often broth is called for in recipes! Soups, stews, gravies…and my favorite way: use broth is to cook rice, pasta and potatoes.

It adds a delicious depth of flavor you can’t get with just plain water. Next time you make these, skip the water and use broth.

Easy Instant Pot Bone Broth

Yield: 6 cups
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Total Time: 50 minutes

All you need are just some scrap ingredients and in just a few simple steps you can make your own delicious, nutritious Easy Instant Pot Bone Broth.

Ingredients

  • 1 or 2 Picked over Rotisserie Chicken or Turkey bones, If you have beef bones, use those!
  • 1 Onion, cut in half
  • 3-4 Garlic cloves, Unpeeled is fine
  • 1-2 Carrots, Scrubbed clean but no need to peel
  • 2-3 Celery Stalks
  • 1-2 Bay Leaves
  • Sprigs of thyme, rosemary, If you don't have "fresh" use dried (1-2 tsp each)
  • 2 tsp Fresh Ground Pepper
  • 2 T Apple Cider Vinegar, I like the extra flavor this adds!
  • Water

Instructions

  1. Place all of the solid ingredients into your Instant Pot making sure not to fill past the Max Line.
  2. Add enough cold water to almost cover the bones and veggies.  My ingredients filled right up to the Max Line on the pot so I added enough water to about 2" from that line.
  3. Cover and set your Instant Pot to seal.
  4. Program to High Pressure for 45 minutes.
  5. When finished cooking, let the broth natural release until the pressure pin drops.
  6. When ready, remove the lid.
  7. Strain all of the solids from the broth and discard.
  8. Store your broth in a jar in the fridge for 3-4 days or in your freezer for up to 6 months.  If freezing, thaw in your fridge before using.
  9. You may notice a layer of fat that settles onto the top once cooled.  Just remove when ready to use.
  10. You now have delicious, homemade bone broth to use in soups, stews, and all of your favorite broth recipes, or even just to sip on a cold Winter's day!
