It really doesn’t get much easier than this, friends!
This week when I was planning meals, I wanted to make a chicken enchilada bake, but I was looking for easy so I planned to “cheat” and buy organic canned chicken.
Have you ever bought these? I mean, it’s a nice option if you’re only looking for one serving and want to pay $5 for one tiny little can! I just couldn’t bring myself to do it!
Normally, I’d buy a rotisserie chicken but then I’m always left with leftover dark meat that I don’t always use; it really seemed a waste.
So, I decided to finally try using my Instant Pot to prep some shredded chicken and I’m glad I did! For the SAME price of two 5-oz cans of organic chicken, I got 2lbs of frozen organic chicken! I’m not always the best $ saver, but I’m calling this one a win.
PLUS, it was so quick and easy and HELLO? THREE INGREDIENTS!?
The Easiest Instant Pot Shredded Chicken
If you don’t already have an Instant Pot or Pressure Cooker, you may want to add it to your Christmas list. It took me awhile to get on board the pressure cooker train, but I admit to you that I use this thing 3-4 times a week! My poor slow cooker hasn’t gotten any love since I unpacked it 😉

Can You Freeze Shredded Chicken?
Yes! Just follow the instructions below, then cool and place into a freezer bag and freeze. When you’re ready to use it, thaw it in the fridge overnight.

How To Make Instant Pot Shredded Chicken

I happened to use frozen boneless chicken for this recipe but if you use thawed, just reduce the cooking time to 10 minutes – easy peasy! Also, I haven’t tried this recipe with bone-in chicken, but if you do, please come back and tell me how it is!
Easy 3-Ingredient Instant Pot Shredded Chicken
Quick and Easy Shredded Chicken for your favorite recipes!
Ingredients
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 lb frozen or fresh chicken
- 1 tsp roasted garlic seasoning
Instructions
- Place the frozen or fresh chicken breasts in the bottom of your pressure cooker.
- Pour the broth over the chicken.
- Sprinkle seasoning on the chicken.
- Seal the vent.
- Set the Instant Pot to High Pressure for 13 minutes for frozen chicken / 10 minutes for thawed.
- Remember that your Instant Pot will take about 10 minutes to get to pressure.
- After it's done, you can either naturally release the pressure or if you're in a hurry, perform a manual release.
- Pour off the liquid and shred the chicken with two forks - or use your hand held mixer (I've not done this but many swear by it!)
- Your chicken is ready to use for your next recipe!
Notes
Use your favorite seasoning if you don't have roasted garlic - I love to use garlic salt or even Montreal Chicken seasoning.
